Trump to Iran: 'Responsible' for Every Houthi Shot Fired

Estimated read time: 2 min

In a fiery statement issued earlier today, former President Donald Trump pointed the finger squarely at Iran, accusing the Islamic Republic of being the mastermind behind every missile and drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump didn’t mince words, declaring, “Iran is responsible—100 percent—for every Houthi shot fired. They’re the ones pulling the strings, funding the chaos, and arming these terrorists. The world knows it, and it’s time we stop pretending otherwise.”
Trump’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, where Houthi forces have intensified attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and launched drones targeting Israel in recent weeks. The Iran-backed militia has claimed responsibility for disrupting global trade routes, citing solidarity with Palestinians in the ongoing Gaza conflict. U.S. and British naval forces have responded with airstrikes on Houthi positions, but the group’s assaults show no signs of abating.
“Iran thinks they can hide behind their proxies,” Trump continued. “But we see through it. They’ve got blood on their hands—American blood, Israeli blood, and the blood of innocent sailors just trying to do their jobs. If I were in charge, Tehran would’ve felt the consequences already. Big consequences. Believe me.”
The former president’s comments echo sentiments he expressed during his time in office, when he withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed crippling sanctions on the regime. Trump has long argued that Iran’s financial and military support fuels instability across the region, from Yemen to Lebanon and beyond. Analysts estimate that Iran provides the Houthis with millions in funding, along with advanced weaponry like ballistic missiles and drones—technology far beyond what the impoverished nation of Yemen could develop independently.
Current U.S. officials have stopped short of directly blaming Iran for every Houthi attack but acknowledge Tehran’s role as a key enabler. The Biden administration has faced criticism for what some call a “soft” approach to Iran, with Republicans urging a harder line. Trump seized on this, saying, “The weak leadership in Washington lets Iran run wild. I’d have them begging to negotiate in two days.”
As the 2024 election looms, Trump’s latest remarks signal he’s doubling down on his hawkish foreign policy stance, positioning himself as the tough-on-Iran candidate. Whether his words will resonate with voters—or provoke a response from Tehran—remains to be seen.
